My target 150 kms

I'm taking on the 5km a Day Your Way challenge for Dementia Australia this November.

Currently, it is estimated that more than 421,000 Australians are living with dementia. Without a medical breakthrough, the number of people with dementia is expected to increase to more than 812,500 by 2058.

Your contribution will make a world of difference for people impacted by dementia, every donation big or small counts!

Thank you so much for your support.

My Why

Thursday 7th Nov

I’m raising money for a cause close to my heart and would love your support as I aim to walk/jog/run 5kms a day for this month of November.

Nearly 10 years ago my Dad was diagnosed with early onset Dementia, a diagnosis that was not deserved for a man who has lived a life of kindness and generosity and who has worked hard on his banana farm to provide for his family.

Dementia has taught our family a lot and is one of the hardest journeys to watch a loved one lose their memory, words and ability. But I’d be lying if I didn’t acknowledge the wonderful things Dads Dementia has given me. I have seen Dad cry tears of joy and happiness and tears of sadness when he would reminisce through telling stories of his life, something I will treasure forever. Dad’s smile and humour continues to shine through and what is amazing but not surprising is that Bobbys innate nature to always ask if he can help and if you’re ok is still with him.

Dementia has given our family quality time with Bobby and the opportunity to make more loving memories. We’ve shared tears of love, grief, acceptance and joy together and ultimately as a family have come together to support our Dad and Mum through a journey that is very difficult to put into words. I’ve always known my Mum to be selfless, caring, kind and compassionate to name a few but watching our Mum consistently show up and choose her love and commitment to Dad throughout their marriage and particularly over the past 10 years is the definition of unconditional love.

I hope to create more awareness of Dementia by walking 5km a day this month and sharing Dads journey with Dementia.

I encourage anyone who may be experiencing something similar with a loved one to reach out or give me a call so I can lend a helping hand in whatever way, just like my Dad always has.

Thank you for your gift
