Crunches Challenge 2026

I'm taking on the Crunches Challenge this June for Dementia Australia

Currently, it is estimated that more than 446,500 Australians are living with dementia. Without a significant intervention, the number of Australians living with dementia is expected to increase to more than 1 million by 2065.

Your contribution will make a world of difference for people impacted by dementia, every donation big or small counts!

Thank you so much for your support.

1170 crunches complete .... 1235 crunches to go!

Tuesday 16th Jun

Day 16

The challenge with dementia isn't only remembering the past. It's learning how to keep loving someone through all the changes that come with it.

I've been a little quieter about this challenge lately, but I've still been showing up behind the scenes and keeping myself accountable.

Today's crunches bring my total to 1,170 crunches for Dementia Australia this month.

One thing I didn't know until dementia became part of my family's story is that there are services available to support people living with dementia, as well as the people walking alongside them.

If you're worried about changes in your own memory, supporting someone with dementia, or simply don't know where to start, the National Dementia Helpline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 1800 100 500. They provide free information, advice, counselling, and can connect people with local support groups and services. Sometimes knowing where to turn is the hardest part. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who has followed along so far. Every crunch is for a cause that means a great deal to me, and every conversation about dementia helps raise awareness.

Dementia may change memories, but it doesn't erase the love that created them.

1,170 crunches down. Still going.

My Grandma and Grandpa - love you both

Tuesday 2nd Jun

Day 2.

Tuesday 2nd Jun

I had planned to share a video tonight, but I'm feeling pretty under the weather, so you'll just have to take my word for it that the crunches got done.

One thing this challenge is teaching me already is that consistency isn't about having perfect days. It's about continuing to show up when things aren't ideal.

For me, dementia isn't just a disease. It's something I've watched slowly change the lives of people I love.

I watched my Grandma lose her husband of nearly 65 years to dementia. Not all at once, but little by little. It's often called "the long goodbye", and I think that's because you grieve someone while they're still here. You watch memories fade, routines change, and pieces of the person you know slowly disappear.

I watched my Grandpa, once one of the toughest, strongest and most capable men I knew, gradually decline. Every visit to the nursing home came with a quiet question in the back of my mind, would he remember me today? Thankfully, he always remembered me and knew my name. But during my last visits, he no longer remembered my children's names, and that was heartbreaking.

Dementia doesn't just affect the person diagnosed. It ripples through families, relationships and generations. It affects spouses, children, grandchildren, friends and carers.

That's one of the reasons I'm doing this challenge.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read these posts, share them, talk about dementia, or simply follow along. Every conversation helps keep awareness alive.

Tonight isn't a glamorous update, but it is an honest one.

Day 2 complete, 50 crunches done.

Let's do this !

Monday 1st Jun
Alright, Day 1. Forty crunches for dementia. I'm doing this because dementia has had a real impact on people I love, and I know so many other families are walking a similar path. Every donation, share and conversation helps, so thank you for being here. Let's do it.

Tomorrow it begins .....

Sunday 31st May

For the entire month of June, I'll be taking on my dementia fundraising challenge, one crunch at a time, to help raise awareness and support for a disease that affects so many individuals and families.

Before I've even completed a single crunch, I've already received a donation, and honestly, that means more than I can put into words. Thank you. Your support reminds me that this challenge is about something much bigger than exercise.
Dementia slowly steals memories, independence and connection, not only from the person living with it, but from the people who love them too.
This challenge is personal. It's for my Grandpa, and for every family walking this road.
Tomorrow I start. The crunches might be counted one by one, but the reason behind them is immeasurable.
Here's to 30 days of showing up, staying accountable, raising awareness and hopefully making a small difference along the way.  Neeta xx

Before I start ... I would like to share some information...

Thursday 21st May
Today I’m sharing the first post for my dementia fundraising challenge, and it’s one that comes straight from the heart.
Dementia is more than memory loss. It’s a disease that slowly changes a person’s ability to think, communicate, remember and navigate everyday life. In Australia, it’s the second leading cause of death overall and the leading cause of death for women.
But statistics never truly capture the reality of what dementia does. It ripples through entire families. It changes relationships, routines, emotions and the way loved ones connect with each other. You don’t just watch someone forget things, you watch pieces of the person you love slowly fade, while still trying to hold onto every moment you can.
Personally, dementia has affected me deeply. Seeing someone you love go through it is heartbreaking in ways that are hard to explain unless you’ve lived it. It brings grief, helplessness, love, exhaustion and treasured moments all at once.
This challenge is for awareness, for support, for families carrying this weight quietly, and for the people living with dementia themselves. Every step I take is for them 🤍
Love neet xx

If you or someone you love is affected by dementia, support is available through the National Dementia Helpline on 1800 100 500. It’s a free and confidential service offering expert information, advice and support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
