Run For Dementia
Hello everyone!! If you could please take a little time to read through and share this message it would be greatly appreciated...
On Sunday 24th September, I will be running a distance of approximately 70-75km from the Seashells Hotel (Mandurah) to Gage Roads (Fremantle). This date has been set due to it being the last day of Dementia Action Week.
I will be raising funds for the ‘Dementia Australia Research Foundation’ in an event I have made called 'Run For Dementia'. I have set this up to support the battle that thousands of people face with dementia and the millions of those who are involved in their care.
As some of you may know, I sadly lost my nan in April of 2022 to this horrible illness. It not only affected her but it was shocking to all our family and friends to see this amazing woman take a turn for the worst. My nan was always my rock growing up. She was always the one I turned to if I was in trouble with my mum for not cleaning my room, or if I wanted £2 for some sweets next door she had it ready and waiting for me, or even if it was just to tell me how great a game of football I had that weekend when I know for a fact I didn’t play well at all! I think a lot of people can relate this with their own grandparents as they can act as the glue to the family, and she certainly was and more for ours. Whatever the situation, she was always the person I went to for advice and assistance. To see her the way she was once diagnosed and knowing I wasn't able to return the favour and help her, completely broke me.
So in efforts to try and make her proud, I have challenged myself to running a near double marathon. At the completion of my run there will be a celebration held at Gage Roads in Fremantle.
Anybody that wants to join in at any point of the run or would like to go alongside me on a bike, skateboard, electric scooter etc, I’d love the support! However if that doesn’t suit, and you don't want to slog out for half a days worth of exercise then I will set a marker point for the last 2km of the run that you can join me for the final hurdle.
As an alternative, if you just fancy coming down to Gage Roads and having a drink, I will have a section sorted for everybody to enjoy themselves from around 3pm onwards as I will hopefully be arriving there around 5pm to join the fun.
I have set up a few different ways to donate to the fundraiser that I have sorted out with Dementia Australia:
1- The link in my bio/comments section that you can click on will take you straight to the fundraiser.
2- If you are a client of mine at the barber shop, I will have a tub for any spare change/tips that you can put anything you want into there. There will also be a QR code that you can scan if you want to donate but have no change on you at the time.
3- At the final destination of my run, Gage Roads Fremantle, there will be a tub and QR code there too in which you can also donate with whatever you fancy (as little or as big is hugely appreciated).
