Our Mum & Nan

Five years ago, our world changed forever.

Our beautiful Mum/Nan was diagnosed with dementia, at the very same time our Dad was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic bowel cancer.

Despite fighting his own devastating battle, Dad remained Mum’s main carer. He showed incredible strength, love and determination, caring for her right up until his passing in June this year. Even while fighting for his own life, he never stopped looking after the love of his life. ❤️

Whilst losing Dad, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to move Mum into care. Without a doubt, it has been one of the hardest things I have ever had to do as a daughter.

Dementia is such a cruel and unforgiving disease. It doesn't just affect the person diagnosed; it breaks the hearts of the family and friends who have to watch someone they love slowly slip away, little by little.

Our Mum was always so smart, intelligent, active and health conscious. She exercised, ate well and looked after herself. And yet, here we are. Dementia doesn't discriminate, and no family is ever truly prepared for the heartbreak it brings.

We have already lost our Dad, and now we are slowly losing parts of our Mum to this awful disease. It's a heartbreak that is difficult to put into words.

To everyone who has donated, supported us or sent kind words, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your generosity and kindness mean more than you will ever know.
