Sponsor the girls' run and help raise money for dementia!
Hi! We are Avery, Tess, Anna, Macy and Amber. We are running a half marathon on June 7 for people, families, and carers impacted by dementia.
This is a cause close to our hearts as Anna's family has been impacted by dementia. Her story is below:
I have always admired my dad: his generosity, capability and intelligence are evident in everything he does. In our household he has always been someone you can go to with any dilemma and know with absolute certainty that you'll get a measured, empathic and wise response.
Over the past few years, it has been impossible to ignore changes in him. His memory slowly got worse, he lost confidence, became more withdrawn and had mood changes. Unfortunately, our worst fears were confirmed early last year when he received a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.
The impact on our family has been devastating, as me, my brothers, and sister have to slowly watch our dad lose himself. It has been especially hard on my mum, who overnight lost her colleague of 12 years, and is now grappling with losing her life partner and support system.
Unfortunately, our situation is far from unique. An estimated 450 000 Australians are currently living with dementia, and 1.7 million people in Australia are involved in the care of someone with dementia. We would appreciate any donations, even just $1, to help beat this terrible disease and show your support! All funds raised will go towards the work of Dementia Australia to provide vital services for people living with dementia, their families and carers. These services include counselling, support groups, education and training.
