Long Ride for Dementia

Hello friends, I'm raising funds for Dementia Australia and to help family members living with the disease!

What is dementia?

Dementia is a broad term used to describe the gradual loss of someone’s memory, intellect, ability to think rationally and social skills. Dementia is not one specific disease, but a collection of symptoms of a long term brain disorder such as Alzheimer’s disease or vascular dementia.

Dementia affects around 1 in 15 Australians aged of 65 and over. While dementia is more common in older people, it is not considered a normal part of aging. People in their 40s and 50s can sometimes get dementia as well, this is called ‘younger onset dementia’.

Our beautiful mother, grandma and wife was diagnosed with dementia. Our family spent years living the disease and experiencing the decline of mum’s health was unbearable. The love, support and understanding from family and friends was so important to help us through such an emotional period of our life.

The effect on the family was hard knowing that there is no cure and every day was so precious spending time with Mum.

I am about to undertake an epic solo motorcycle ride on my Triumph from Brisbane through Outback NSW to Broken Hill and back to raise much needed funds and awareness for Dementia Australia. 

We also need to let families know who are living with dementia that they are not alone and that there is help and support out there. 

Dementia Australia has access to resources and information to help families living with the disease. 

But I need your help! Please make a donation to support my efforts and help me reach my goal to beat dementia.

All funds raised will support the work of Dementia Australia to provide vital support services for people living with dementia, their families and carers. These services include counselling, support groups, education and training.
