Standing up to Dementia

I'm raising funds for people with dementia!

Before dementia entered our lives, Marc was a man deeply proud of his children and all they had achieved. He loved fiercely-his brother Jim, his close friends, long conversations, shared laughter. He was a devoted supporter of the Essendon Football Club, loved his numerous overseas holidays with his family and friends and travelling in Australia including his many road trips to Noosa & Port Douglas with his family and his 6 month road trip around Australia 50 years ago with two of his best friends Bill and Warwick.  Music also filled his world, spanning a wide range of genres that marked different moments of his life.

Dementia is not a quiet diagnosis.

It is relentless, life-altering, and unforgiving- and it affects far more than memory.

My husband, Marc, was diagnosed with dementia over five years ago.Since that day, our lives have been reshaped by challenges most people never see. Dementia changes relationships, steals independence, and demands extraordinary strength from those living with it and those who care for them.

Marc is still here.

He is still my husband and our childrens father.

Together we are still stronger than this horrendous disease.

Our dear friend Bill, our children and l are fundraising for Dementia Australia because families like ours need more than sympathy-   we need support, education, advocacy, and progress. Dementia Australia provides critical services and fights for better understanding and care for the growing number of Australians affected by this disease.

This fundraiser is for Marc.

It is for every person living with dementia.

And it is for every carer standing up every day- often exhausted, often unseen-but still showing up with love!
