5km a day

I’m raising funds for people with dementia!

This November I’m taking part in the 5km A Day Your Way challenge with Dementia Australia.

Each day in November I’ll be completing 5km a day, however I wish.

Every kilometre I complete, and dollar raised, helps support the 446,500 Australians living with dementia and the 1.7 million who care for them.

My Updates

Beginning

Saturday 3rd Oct
In 2023 I started to notice some changes in my Dad. Herb had always been an incredibly independent man. A doer. A musician, and a lover of life. He lived a great life doing what he loved, playing and enjoying music, traveling, reading, watching good films and enjoying the arts. This is a very thin overview pf Dad’s life, but the subtle and not so subtle changes in Dad quickly took all these from him. He was loosing vision and diagnosed with macular degeneration, and I then fought hard through disbelief and a lot of resistance to look into a dementia diagnosis. This was a long and difficult journey, mostly due to a broken medical system, and he wasn’t diagnosed properly until 2025, and by that time he needed nursing care. He was diagnosed with a mixed dementia which included Lewy Body dementia, alzheimers and vascular dementia. I tried to look after Dad at home but with such a significant and rapid decline, plus a child going through her final year of high school, and myself going through peri menopause it proved too much and Dad heartbreakingly moved to care.
It’s been a hard time to continue with my own journey of activity and health so what better way to get re- motivated to exercise (I am usually a very fit and active person) than raise money for a cause that is close to my heart!
