You never really know….ever

Saturday 3rd Sep I have been the primary carer for my mum since the day she received her diagnosis. There is nothing that can prepare you for the journey. No amount of research will help you understand. No question is the right question to get the answers you are looking for. No prayer will save you from the pain in store. No God has the healing touch to bring back the person you slowly lose a little part of each day.  No explanation, no amount of tears or apology takes away the guilt you feel for being frustrated. No amount of love can take away their pain, or stop them from losing themselves, their words, their shoes, their joy, or their smile. You can’t love dementia out of people…..no matter how hard you try, how much you give, or what plea bargain you make with the gods.  It is a soul crushing, hope stealing, life ending disease. There is no cure, there is no treatment, there is nothing. Nothing but the grim realisation that each day will only get worse, it will never get better, it will never be ok ever again. The only road this disease leads to, is a complete loss of dignity, humanity, and life, the only relief being, when your loved one passes on to their better place. Until then, you must watch them lose themselves, forget their love, & worst of all, forget how to be them. I wish dementia upon no one, it is a cruel curse with no reprieve. There has to be something, anything we can do to find the answer to stop the suffering, the heartbreak & the anguish of this disease.  Share
