Most importantly, he showed us what it means to be a good person—someone who lives with integrity, kindness, and purpose. Anh Nguyen embodied the Vietnamese principle of ‘ơn cùng nghĩa tận,’ a phrase that reflects his unwavering commitment to treating everyone with profound gratitude and fulfilling his responsibilities to the fullest. For his students like myself, this meant he went beyond teaching; he invested in our growth, guiding us with patience and wisdom. To his colleagues, it was evident in his dedication to collaboration and excellence, always giving his all to every task and relationship. For his new friends, including the groups of Vietnamese refugees he helped settle in Australia, this principle shone through in his tireless efforts to support their new beginnings, offering guidance and encouragement as they embarked on new ventures in a foreign land. To all who knew him, ‘ơn cùng nghĩa tận’ meant Anh Nguyen lived with a heart full of gratitude and a deep sense of duty, leaving a lasting legacy of compassion and generosity. Chị Fay and các cháu, please know that Anh Nguyen’s light will continue to shine through the countless lives he touched.
