I'm raising funds for people with dementia!
On 13th March I'll be running the Six Foot Track; a bush marathon 45km long, which starts at the Explorers Tree in Katoomba and runs up and down many hills and through a river, til you arrive at Jenolan Caves. It's a great run. Or so I thought when I did it ten years ago. That time, my lovely Mum, 'Locky' was waiting for me (for a long time) at the finish.
This year with COVID there will be no spectators at the finish. But even if there wasn't a pandemic, Locky unfortunately wouldn't be at the finish this time. Instead I'll be running with her in my heart every km. Each hard hill, I'll be thinking back to all the too long walks I roped her into doing with me. Every hard step, I'll think back to the forest steps I pushed her up when her pack was too heavy, and how she persisted with great humour. Each turn, I'll distract myself with memories of great adventures we had together. Her spirit and strength, the love she showed all of us, and a good bit of training on my part, will hopefully get me through.
I thought I would take this chance to raise funds for Dementia Australia.
All funds raised will support the work of Dementia Australia to provide vital support services for people living with dementia, their families and carers. These services include counselling, support groups, education and training.
