Annual 5km January Challenge 2022

I'm raising funds for people with dementia!

As most of you know this is a cause close to my heart, and I know many others out there that have had loved ones taken to soon by this awful disease. Its the 2nd leading cause of death in Australia!

My mum suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for around 10 years now I think about it. But truly suffered for the last 4 years of her life. The disease completely stole away the woman she was.

By the time we had to say goodbye ironically in a January month of 2018, I had not heard her voice in years. She had not recognised me fully for a long time and had completely lost any form of movement and life.

I want you to know I still remember her for the amazing woman she was. No disease can ever take that away from us! Your my mum that would tell really silly jokes, sing, laugh sometimes so hard a snort might come out, dance, had a staple item of a sarong and wore all summer long, had a party trick of being able to float so well in water & loved to swim, diamonds and gold, poison perfume, loved anything the colour purple, sunflowers and Lilly's, a generous woman who gave her time to others, and with a heart of pure gold!

Previously, I never knew what Alzheimer’s was. I didn’t know the harsh reality of the disease and this is why I want to help create awareness and money for the future with a cure!

I’m a yoga coach and trainer not because of her but because I’ve always had a deep knowing how mindfulness, and keeping fit are not only what I enjoy but are also a huge contributing factor of  the prevention of this disease!

They say it can stem from the heart so without regular exercise the brain doesn’t get the nourishment it needs! That’s why for now my 8th year running for this cause means so much to me and of the other beautiful souls that roam this earth that I care about deeply. So I like to start the new year right by doing 5KM a day for the whole month of January! You can walk, jog, bike, swim what ever modality that you choose.

All funds raised will support the work of Dementia Australia to provide vital support services for people living with dementia, their families and carers. These services include counselling, support groups, education and training.
