Smiling with Joyce" is a children's book about dementia. Funds raised by sales of the book will go to Dementia Australia. The book is available on Amazon.com or at my upcoming book launch.

About the book: Maggie's special friend Joyce has dementia. Sometimes when Maggie visits, Joyce forgets things but then, amazingly and wonderfully, something special happens that makes Joyce and Maggie smile.

Smiling with Joyce is a new children's picture book that helps to explain dementia, by local author Glenda MacNaughton.

Based on the author's experience with her mother, Joyce, the book reminds us that special joyful moments are possible for those with advanced dementia and their carers when we find ways to see them. A gently amusing story to start conversations with young children about the unpredictable effects of memory loss on people they might know that stars Joyce's special creations and ways of thinking.

Glenda will be talking with a panel that includes a Dementia Australia advocate, a Professor of Early Childhood Education and a carer whose parents had dementia. They will take questions on how to speak to your child about dementia. Books will be for sale at the end of the session.
