Run for Judy and Dementia

By Darren Lanham Join Me

I'm raising funds for people with dementia!

I'm raising funds for people with dementia! I'm proposing to run 24 hours on 14th December 2024. The location is at Spring Lake Park in Springfield Lakes, Qld 4300.

Last year we lost our Mum, Judy to this debilitating disease and we know of many of our friends and relatives who have been impacted by this disease in there own families.

But I need your help! Please make a donation to support my efforts and help me reach my goal to beat dementia.

All funds raised will support the work of Dementia Australia to provide vital support services for people living with dementia, their families and carers. These services include counselling, support groups, education and training.

Thank you for your support.

My Updates

Last Long training Run

Sunday 17th Nov
On Saturday I completed my last long run. These runs are for testing nutrition and seeing how the body is feeling after 5 hours at a time. Happy to say, all good. 24 hours will be a different, I've never done that time period before so it will be a test of not only my inner strength, but my support crew to keep going in the dark times. I just need to remember, this is for Mum. I can't and won't let her down.

Time to knuckle down

Sunday 14th Jul
Now that Gold Coast Marathon is over and I've had a weeks rest and bounced back from it very well, it's time to continue the build up to Run for Judy on December 14th.
Tomorrow marks one year of her passing and she is truly missed by us all and the thought of this is driving me on to keep going, just like it did with the marathon last. The continuous thoughts of her life and how it was in the end drove me on through those dark times and helped me finish.
So it's time to build kilometres, just like I have done for Trail to Triumph in the past. The lonely long hours with your own thoughts is numbing.
Wish me luck.

New kit

Saturday 15th Jun
Thanks to Caren from Dementia Australia for sending out the shirts, caps and goodies. What better way to debut the shirt than a run at Robelle Domain parkrun. Thanks to my mate Neil for the photos

Pushing Through the Kilometres

Sunday 26th May
Currently I'm in training for Gold Coast Marathon in July. This will lead into Trail to Triumph 250km in October which should hold me in good stead for the 24 hours for Mum.

It's a slow and steady build of kilometres. In the coming months my weekly mileage will increase greatly as I push through long run of 6 & 7 hours at a time before TTT before going straight into longer run / walks for the 24 hours in December.

It is going hurt, but for Mum it is worth it. She would shake her head at me doing it but she wouldn't say anything because of the humble and quiet person she was.

I'm going to get this done Mum, just you wait.

Thank you to my Supporters
