Ultra Marathon to Remember 2022

I'm taking on a Marathon to Remember and making a difference for people living with dementia!

I’m challenging myself to complete an Ultra Marathon to raise funds to support people with dementia.

Please help me reach my goal by making a donation. It only takes a minute and any amount you can give will go a long way to fund medical and social research and support the vital services, support groups and education programs that Dementia Australia provides to people living with dementia, their families and carers.

Thank you for your support

About me!

Thursday 25th Aug
Hi all,

I am Cassie, a 36yr old mum of 1, I currently work as a nurse in an acute care hospital in the pandemic ward. I am also studying to become a nurse and midwife.

My first experience with dementia was in a dementia specific wing of a residential aged care facility. There was someone who was clearly 15 to 20 years younger than a resident, convinced that the older woman was her daughter and followed her around the whole shift, a man asked me to ring a disconnected number numerous of times a shift and had conversations with people that didn't quite make sense but to them it did. I wanted to do so much more than what I actually did that shift, but didn't know how.

Since that day, over 4 years, I have seen the impact that is on families caring for their loved one with dementia and how hard it actually is. They do it daily with a smile on their face and not allow the behaviours of dementia affect them. It may be weeks or days until their loved one no longer recognises them and sometimes it may be the same until the family can no longer cope and they come into hospital and see me, a scary looking individual wrapped up in PPE.

I believe that so much more needs to be done, research into prevention, being able to supply more cognitive behaviour therapy supplies into residential aged care facilities and hospitals and being able to have dedicated lifestyle assistants spend more time with residents will be beneficial and assist us to be able to take care of people affected by dementia.

I strive to do my 60kms over 3 days on the week starting 26/9/22 to 2/10/22 as that is my week off from uni. I will do 20km on the treadmill over 2 days at Fernwood gym and also do a 42km trail walk that will explore some local trails in my area.

Please donate and support this awesome cause :) My profile pic is of me being serenaded by a puppet while working
