I'm raising funds for people with dementia!
I'm raising funds for people with dementia, and I need your help.
As some of you will know, my brother Simon started developing early onset dementia about 8 years ago.
He has been looked after by his wife Jane. Many of you will know about the enormous toll this takes on those who provide the care; Jane was helped by other members of the family as well as professional carers, until Simon reached the stage of needing round-the-clock support. He is now in a home where this is provided. A member of the family visits him almost every day.
I like walking, so I am going on a long walk starting in April to raise money for Dementia Australia.
In 2022 I walked the South West Coast Path in the UK. It starts in Minehead and goes around the South West tip of Britain to finish in Poole, Dorset after 1025kms and 43 days. This time I shall start in the same place and walk in the opposite direction and hope to finish at John O’Groats on the northern tip of mainland Scotland after about 1800kms and 70 days of walking. I shall walk via Sheffield and spend time with Simon on the way!
