Taking on my first marathon to raise funds for Dementia Australia.

I signed up for my first marathon - 42.2km on 12 October in Perth. I’ve never even run a half before, and after 6 months of being in and out of training with health issues, I know this is going to be a massive challenge for me. I’m aiming to cross the finish line and raise the money, not race.

I’m doing it for something much bigger than me. Earlier this year, my close friend lost her dad to this cruel disease after a long and painful battle. Seeing what it did to her and her family was devastating. Dementia has always been something that frightens me, it strips away memory, independence, everything that makes someone who they are.

Running this marathon is my way of doing something about it. Dementia Australia meant more to my friend’s family than money or gifts ever could, so raising funds for them feels like the right way to honour her dad and support others going through the same.
