Run for Dementia - In loving memory of my father!

I'm raising funds for people with dementia!

A few years ago, I set a bold goal for myself—to run a marathon at the age of 40. Now, as I celebrate my 40th year, I’m ready to face this challenge head-on. On Sunday, 13th October 2024, I’ll be running my very first marathon (yes, that’s 42.1km!) at the Melbourne Marathon Festival. But this isn’t just about achieving a personal milestone; it’s about making a difference in the lives of those affected by dementia.

This cause is incredibly close to my heart. In 2020, my father passed away from dementia—a time that was incredibly challenging for my mum, brother, and me. We were not fully aware of the disease or how quickly it could change our dad’s health. Looking back, I wish we had more support and guidance. Now, I’m determined to help others who are going through similar experiences by raising funds to support people with dementia and their carers.

But I can’t do this alone—I need your help!

I’m asking for your support in my fundraising efforts to help me reach my goal to beat dementia. Every donation, big or small, will make a difference. All funds raised will support the work of Dementia Australia, helping them provide vital services like counselling, support groups, and education for those living with dementia, as well as their families and carers.

Here are some important facts about dementia in Australia*:

  • Dementia is the second leading cause of death among Australians. It’s projected to soon become the leading cause.

  • Dementia is the leading cause of death for Australian women.

  • In 2024, it’s estimated that over 421,000 Australians are living with dementia. Without a medical breakthrough, this number could rise to more than 812,500 by 2054.

  • Nearly 29,000 Australians are living with younger onset dementia, affecting people as young as their 30s, 40s, and 50s.

  • More than 1.6 million people in Australia are involved in caring for someone with dementia.

  • 2 in 3 people with dementia live within the community, and 54% of residents in permanent aged care have dementia.

These statistics highlight the urgent need for better support and more research to find a cure.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity and support.
