Zilla runs a half-marathon

I'm raising funds for people with dementia!

My dad had Lewy body dementia and unfortunately passed away in September.

What I've learned from living with someone with dementia is that memory lost isn't always the most prominent symptom.

As early as 2015, we noticed personality changes in Dad and he became increasingly concerned we were being deceptive.

Unfortunately, when we went to the GP, he passed the cognitive tests and it wasn't until an extended hospital stay in 2022 that his dementia was picked up and diagnosed.

I want to see better access to testing and early intervention - if we had known earlier, we could have helped treat the symptoms - like delusions and paranoia - giving Dad a better quality of life and, in turn, giving us more quality time with him.

So I’ll be running a half-marathon, just after what would have been his 86th birthday, to help raise funds for Dementia Australia in hopes it makes a difference for other families navigating this disease.

All funds raised will support the work of Dementia Australia to provide vital support services for people living with dementia, their families and carers. These services include counselling, support groups, education and training.

Thank you for your support.
