MISS COMPASSIONATE AMBASSADOR 2026 "BEYOND BOUNDARIES"

Help No One Face Dementia Alone

WHEN MEMORIES FADE, LOVE REMAINS 💛

This story is shared by a member of Miss Compassionate NDNA Pageant Inc.

"There comes a point in life when everything changes.

A mother may no longer recognise the son or daughter whose hand she once held.

A father may ask the same question again and again.

A husband may forget the name of the woman he has loved for decades.

A wife may become frightened in a place she has always called home.

This is dementia.

More than 18,000 Australians die from dementia each year  -  around 50 people every day.

Dementia is now Australia’s leading cause of death overall, Ranking No #1 Among Australian women, with deaths rising 34% in the past decade and now surpassing heart disease.

And yet, behind these statistics are real people, real families and years of love.

For the person living with dementia, the world can slowly become unfamiliar.

But they are still there.

Behind the forgotten name is a lifetime of love. Behind the repeated question is someone who still deserves patience, dignity and connection.

And when words disappear, love speaks in other ways.

A hand held.
A familiar smile.
A gentle voice.
A quiet moment together.

Because sometimes, love doesn’t need words to be understood.

I live this journey every day as the primary carer for my beautiful mother.

Our family walks beside her through the daily challenges of dementia, including constant shadowing, separation anxiety and nights filled with distress.

Dementia doesn’t affect only the person diagnosed. It affects the whole family  - emotionally, mentally, physically and financially.

Around 1.7 million Australians are involved in caring for someone with dementia.

For many families, particularly across culturally diverse communities, stigma and language barriers can make an already overwhelming journey even harder.

Our family is fortunate to have the means and support to find our own ways to navigate this journey together at home.

But I know many families are not so fortunate.

Through Miss Compassionate Ambassador 2026 – Beyond Boundaries, we want to bring dementia out of the shadows and remind people living with dementia, their families and carers:

You are seen.
You matter.
You are not alone.

This is why Miss Compassionate NĐNA is proud to support Dementia Australia.

Your donation can help Dementia Australia provide vital information, counselling, education, support groups and services for people living with dementia, their families and carers.

Your donation won’t bring back a forgotten memory. But it can help ensure that no person living with dementia, and no family caring for them, has to face this journey alone.

💛 Please help us turn compassion into action.

Every donation, big or small, can make a difference.

Because when memories fade, love remains."
